Marlon has chronic kidney disease. His favorite color is blue and he loves to play with race cars and listen to Jamaican music. During his treatments, he likes to play video games, especially games where he can race and drive cars.
Marlon’s kidney problems require him to have dialysis three times per week and sometimes he is so tired that he needs a wheelchair to get around. Dialysis can be a long process and a bit boring for a 9-year-old boy to sit through. So, when Marlon was asked what his most heartfelt wish would be, he asked for a shopping spree where he could get video games and an iPad that he could take with him during his treatments.
Marlon and his dad were picked up on their wish day in a limo. They were then taken to King of Prussia Mall for a day of shopping! Together, they visited the Apple Store where Marlon got his iPad Air, a case and earphones. On their way to Gamestop, they passed a Flying Extreme Hero kiosk where Marlon bought a flying Iron Man—dad promised to take him to a park where he could fly it outside.
At Gamestop, store clerks helped Marlon pick out a Wii U and lots of games! He gets to play video games while in treatments at CHOP so these were especially exciting for him.
All of the shopping worked up Marlon’s appetite so they headed over to Ruby’s Diner. A Cheeseburger, two orders of fries, Sprite and a strawberry milkshake was all he needed to go on with the afternoon.
After lunch, they rode the amusement cars in the mall—dad even got on one!
Marlon really wanted some new clothes so he headed to Sears and picked out new jeans, a very nice 3 piece suit, shirts and all of the essentials to make him look like a dapper young man.
The last stop was Toys R Us. His legs were getting tired so instead of having to ride in a wheel chair, Marlon got to ride in the shopping cart to roll around the store and make his selections. He even bought gifts for his brother and sister. The highlight of his Toy shopping was finding the Despicable Me dolls—he absolutely loves the minions!
Marlon had such a wonderful wish day—he said he wanted a day like to today again tomorrow. Thank you for making Marlon’s wish a magical experience. It is truly a day he will never forget.
