When wish kid Sienna, now 6, received her cancer diagnosis, she withdrew from the joys of life and became reclusive and shy. However-her wish changed everything.
Her mother Karen says that the difference in Sienna once she learned she would be receiving a wish was “like the difference between night and day.”
For Sienna, the magic of her once-in-a-lifetime wish experience began before her plane even took off for Orlando. Her wish granters Jamie, Seema and Ann Marie, planned a wish celebration party that gave Sienna a feeling of elation far beyond even the usual excitement and anticipation that surrounds a princess-loving six-year-old headed to Disney. They even presented Sienna with an elaborate scroll that proclaimed the wonderful news: she was headed to Disney World!
Once Sienna’s wish began, she received royal treatment nearly every moment. She rode to the airport in a colorfully-lighted limo, explored the cockpit of her plane with the pilot and even received hand-delivered gifts during her stay at Give Kids the World Village that were tailored just for her and the things she liked most. The mayor of the village, an enthusiastic bunny named Mayor Clayton, even came by Sienna’s room one night to tuck her into bed personally. Karen says their family never dreamed that Sienna’s wish would be so detailed and so perfect for her-nothing was overlooked!
In the parks, Sienna’s wish only became more magical. When she presented her special wish pass, she was escorted to the front of the lines and she received a makeover which transformed her into the sparkling princess she was always meant to be. After Sienna's makeover, throughout the day, several times other princesses in the parks noticed her and just had to speak with her, which made her feel even more special.
Today, Sienna is in remission. Her wish trip not only restored her spirit, but it gave her and her family a chance to bond with each other and brought on the realization that they were not alone. Karen says that they connected with several other families at Give Kids The World who had gone through similar situations. She was blown away by the fact that “out of something so horrible, a great thing could happen.” Sienna’s wish was a dream that she never even imagined could come true.
