In this #WalkWednesday blog, we spoke to Jennifer, the Team Captain of our current Top Susquehanna Valley Team, Team Karly’s Krew. Karly’s Krew was first inspired to begin fundraising for the Walk after Karly’s wish to go to Disneyworld. Accompanied by her parents and older brother, Karly’s family was able to enjoy all that Disney has to offer, and were treated like royalty. “It was an amazing experience, they made going on a vacation easy, which is something that doesn’t happen usually when you have a child with special needs.” Jennifer remembers this wish experience as she continues to motivate others to help fundraise.
Team Karly’s Krew uses social media as their greatest ally to get others to join their fundraising team. Through sharing stories of granted wishes, you can not only gain more donations, but also show friends and family what their donations can help accomplish. Team Karly’s Krew’s tip to other team is to continue fundraising all year long, and to consistently spread the word: “The biggest thing for us to continue to keep pushing. Each month we post a different little story about why Make-A-Wish and share our team link.” The new location of the Susquehanna Valley walk at Zoo America is another point to underline when attempting to gain walkers for your team. As Karly’s Krew states what they most look forward to at the upcoming walk event: “We love the new location and we are looking forward to getting to see all the members of our team at one place for such a special reason!”
To Jennifer and her family, Make-A-Wish is a family of friends and volunteers that come together to bring joy to all those involved: “They bring a smile to kids’ faces when sometimes life isn’t easy, and as a mom who gets to see that smile I can’t express how it means to me.” The importance of Make-A-Wish in this family’s life drives them to continue fundraising all year long.
You can use Team Karly’s Krew tips to success by spreading the word about Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Northern Delaware, and Susquehanna Valley’s Walk through social media.
