A love letter to our volunteers

Staff thank you
National Volunteer Week, a program established by Points of Light in 1974, is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. It’s about demonstrating to the nation that by working together, we have the fortitude to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals.

The work of granting wishes cannot be accomplished without the hard work and dedication of our volunteers. Your willingness to be the hands and feet of our mission, to dig deep into your own creative reserves and to do everything possible to make a child’s life better through his or her wish is unmatched.  You take your payment in childhood smiles, hugs, and the occasional thank you note written by a youthful hand or even in crayon.  You know for certain what many can only speculate:  wishes are necessary and doing all we can to make wish kids feel better sometimes helps them get better.

It’s easy to say that volunteering with Make-A-Wish is its own reward.  While we sincerely hope that is true, it’s not enough to assume you feel it.  So, as volunteer week comes to a close, we wanted to take one final opportunity to assure you that your hard work has not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.  We exist because you make it happen.  Wishes are granted because you believe it the power and magic of hope.  “Thank you” aren’t words enough to express the deep gratitude we have for all you have done.  With more than 5,000 wishes granted in nearly 30 years, you are the heart and soul of Make-A-Wish.  Without you, there is no us.

Thank you.
