Local Wish Kids Travel to Silicon Valley for WWE®’s Annual Pop-Culture Extravaganza
March 17, 2015 – On Sunday, March 29, millions of WWE fans around the world will watch their favorite WWE Superstars and Divas during WrestleMania® 31 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. In the midst of the excitement, Shane, 12 from Southampton, PA and Carlos, 16 from Chester, PA will get to experience the annual event firsthand. Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Northern Delaware & Susquehanna Valley, through the help of WWE, has planned a weekend packed with activities guaranteed to amaze the young fans.
The excitement begins Thursday, March 26, when Shane and Carlos and their families will travel to Santa Clara in Silicon Valley. In addition to attending Sunday’s event, Shane and Carlos will have opportunities to meet WWE Superstars and Divas, including a private autograph session and tickets to the biggest fan event of the year, WrestleMania Axxess.
Shane and Carlos and their families will also have free time to explore Silicon Valley and attend a pizza party for wish kids at the Tech Museum of Innovation.
Shane and Carlos will join 24 other wish kids from around the country whose one true wish is to go to WrestleMania. With 25 wish kids attending this year, WrestleMania is one of the largest single wish-granting endeavors, though support from WWE occurs year-round: WWE regularly helps grant wishes by donating tickets to WWE events nationwide and coordinating meet and greets with WWE talent.
“Our wish kids enjoy watching WWE because the confidence and bravery of the WWE Superstars and Divas is something that inspires them as they face a life-threatening medical condition,” said Dennis J. Heron, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Northern Delaware & Susquehanna Valley. “WWE consistently grants high quality wishes, and I am confident they will return from WrestleMania 31 with a renewed sense of strength and resilience.”
WWE has been involved in wish granting since the early 1980s, beginning shortly after the founding of Make-A-Wish. The popularity of WWE has endured throughout the years with a total wish count numbering in the thousands. Since 2001, more than 45 Superstars and Divas have individually been requested, and subsequently, granted a wish.

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true has positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. Headquartered in Phoenix, Make-A-Wish is one of the world's leading children's charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 27,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 37 minutes. It has granted more than 254,000 wishes since its inception in 1980; more than 14,200 in 2014 alone.
