Christmas Village presents Make-A-Wish Charity Weekend

December 08, 2015

Philadelphia, PA

In December 2005, the Andrisani sisters (then 8, 6 and 3 years old) decided they wanted to help make other kids’ dreams come true by raising money for Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Northern Delaware & Susquehanna Valley.  After watching the movie Elf, in which Buddy the Elf says that “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is to sing out loud for all to hear,” they came up with the idea of singing Christmas carols in their community to raise money for Make-A-Wish. They gathered some of their friends from St. Anastasia School (Delaware County) and began going door to door singing songs and spreading Christmas cheer to raise money so that sick children could experience the power of a wish. Over the past ten years their team of carolers has grown significantly as has the amount of money raised they have now raised more than $170,000 for Make-A-Wish in support of over 24 children and families!   Visitors to the Christmas Village are invited to come hear the Carolers and can help support their efforts for Make-A-Wish by making a donation at the info booth or in front of the stage during performance

About Make-A-Wish®:

Make-A-Wish grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. According to a 2011 U.S. study of wish impact, most health professionals surveyed believe a wish-come-true has positive impacts on the health of children. Kids say wishes give them renewed strength to fight their illness, and their parents say these experiences help strengthen the entire family. Headquartered in Phoenix, Make-A-Wish is one of the world's leading children's charities, serving children in every community in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 27,000 volunteers, Make-A-Wish grants a wish somewhere in the country every 37 minutes. It has granted more than 254,000 wishes since its inception in 1980; more than 14,500 in 2015 alone. Make-A-Wish® Philadelphia, Northern Delaware & Susquehanna Valley serves Bucks, Chester, Cumberland, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montgomery, Perry and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania and New Castle County in Delaware.
