Share the Story
Don’t just go door-to-door asking for money. Instead, be sure to explain to your friends, colleagues and even complete strangers how much of an impact they’ll make when they donate to Make-A-Wish. Before you hand over that checkbook, explain that their donations help our chapter grant a wish every day of the year. You could even share one of these touching stories with potential donors to show them how their contributions will be used. When you tell your community members the amazing stories behind Walk for Wishes, you empower them to make a difference. With the proper encouragement, a reluctant donor could be transformed into next year’s teammate!
Make it Personal
Let your own personality shine and look at Walk for Wishes as an opportunity to cultivate relationships among your community members! Before asking your co-workers to donate, take them out for coffee. Bring a plate of cookies over to your neighbor’s along with that fundraising form. When people feel that you value them, not just their money, they’re far more likely to give a large sum. They might even help you spread the word!
Friends, Family, and Festivities
Walk for Wishes isn't just a walk through the park. Your day will be jam-packed with laughter, activities and lasting memories. When you’re fundraising, bring some of that fun to your community! Get creative with your campaigning to get more donations while spreading the Make-A-Wish experience of hope, strength and joy. You could sell hot chocolate on game day, walk your neighbors’ dogs or even charge to carve Halloween pumpkins. The possibilities are endless, so don’t settle for just a signature: put a smile on someone’s face in the process.
Don’t Just Donate – Volunteer!
Okay, so not everyone is willing to part with their hard-earned cash. The good news is, they don't have to! We also need volunteers the day of Walk for Wishes to register participants, set up fantastic activities and dole out delicious refreshments. When you’re out fundraising, be sure to let your community members know that they can participate in this life-changing event without giving up their Jeffersons. Many businesses have philanthropy requirements as well, so they can be a wonderful resource even if they refuse sponsorship. Click here to find out how to get involved without raising a dime.
