Having a Make-A-Wish gave him a chance to be the child that he is and to experience a new sense of energy and an infusion of happiness and joy.

Liam, a five year old boy from Holland, Pa, was granted a wish to have a "birthday/celebration of life party" on Sunday, March 5th 2013. The event took place at the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad, in New Hope, PA. Liam has a passion for trains, so the venue could not have been a better fit.

This party was truly a celebration of life for Liam, since a few months ago it was unknown whether or not he was ever coming home from the hospital. Liam suffered from a Wilms Tumor, which was a two pound mass found in his stomach one year ago. When Shannon, his mother, first found out about his medical condition, she said it was both “gut-wrenching and shocking.” Shannon continued to say that he is now in remission, and that he has said on numerous occasions, “I BEAT CANCER!”

Prior to Liam’s wish, he asked on a daily basis when his “big Make-A-Wish party” was happening. When it finally arrived, he was full of smiles, energy, and laughter. Liam said his favorite parts of the wish were the magic tricks from the story-teller, the yummy ice-cream and the enormous candy cart! Shannon made a point to say that the employees from Blue Bunny stayed the entire length of the event and were “kind and incredible.” Aside from donating chocolate ice cream (Liam’s favorite flavor), they provided party décor as well! They added a special touch to an unforgettable day.

Liam’s wish experience significantly impacted both him and his family by changing their perspectives on life. Just one year ago, he was a quiet and shy child who was angry at scared for what would be a long road ahead. Shannon continued to say that he has now transformed into a healthy, outgoing, and happy young man who is just so full of joy. Shannon mentioned that “it was a bright and happy day, and it made everyone really positive.” Liam keeps asking when it will be happening again!

Shannon shared a quote from Liam after his wish. He looked at her and said, “Mom, the sky is blue and the birds are singing, isn’t it a beautiful day? It is evident what the power of a wish can do, and how much Liam appreciates the simplicity in life at such a young age. The party may have only been a few hours, but the memories and smiles from this special occasion will be treasured forever.
